Use Symbols to Highlight Your Data in Excel

Sometime in can be more meaningful to hightlight your date with symbols than with colour.

We have a simple list of numbers that require a different action if they are greater than 9.
We will accomplish this by using a simple if formula.

=IF(D3<10, CHAR(40), CHAR(49))

The result is an opening bracket.

Select column "E" and chage the Font to "Wingdings"

The opening bracket will now turn to a phone.

If you drag the formula down you will now have both phones and file folders.

To find the character codes for wingdings, go to your search engine and search "wingding characters".

This will produce a chart of symbols for you to select from.
