Use And With IF in Excel

We are always looking for ways to simplify the “nested if”.

The “And” function works well if you would like to test two conditions.

Using the “And” function by itself, with conditions separated by a comma, will result in a true or a false out come.

In our example, to qualify for a scholarship, you must have an average mark greater than or equal to 80 and you must be at least 18 years of age.

=And(A3>=80, b3>=18)

Normally the "TRUE" or "False" answer is not what you need so you are able to combine the "And" with the "IF" to achieve the result that you desire.

=IF(AND(A3>=80, B3>=18), "Award", "")

If they meet the criteria, the word "Award" will be shown, if they do not meet the criteria, the cell will be blank.
